Important Information:

That Everyone should know when you lose a Loved one

In the last few days a friend had a Death in the Family. It is sad to think that he / she has gone.

It is hard on the family who have to look for documents such as the Birth Certificate and the Marriage Certificate, so it is necessary to have them handy even though you do not use them every day and it is a requirement for the Internal Affairs because they have to make sure that the right person has died.

When a person dies all the Bank Accounts are frozen until probate is approved and the person who survived needs to live and so it is important that you have separate Bank Accounts, so the person who is left can carry on financially.

To overcome this problem you would need to order your New Zealand Birth Certificate and on the certificate it has the relevant information such as:-

Your Christian names or the names you were given at birth and then your surname and what sex you were whether it was a male or female and if you were a twin or of a multiple Birth

Then the date as to when you were born and place of Birth such as a Hospital, Home Birth or other places around New Zealand.

If you were born overseas the information is the same but it may be in a different format.

Also your mother’s given names or Christian names and her married name and then what age she was when your mother had you and her place of Birth.

If she had you out of wedlock it would be her surname and your father’s name may not be on the Birth Certificate, because she has to have the father’s consent for his name to go on the form.

If your mother was married or had a partner then the Father’s name will also be on the form with his Christian or given names and surname and his age when you arrived and where he was born.

It is also the same for an adoption Birth Certificate, but it has the names of the people who adopted you and along a side of it when the adoption was confirm by the Courts.

If New Zealand Births, Deaths and Marriages cannot find your Birth Certificate you may need to telephone or email the Churches around New Zealand and ask them for a Christening Certificate that states that you were born on that day and Baptised or Christen on that certain day of the year. This can happen and does. It is easier to do this while you are alive and when you have time rather than leave it for someone else to do when they are upset with your passing.

The other Certificate you will need is a Marriage Certificate.

There are other documentation and requirements needed as well for the bank, insurance company, work and income etc. It can be added stress on an already sad and stressful time.

As part of the services I provide, I also have experience with this situation and can help with acquiring the required documents on your behalf.
